For This Day Trip Tour Your English speaking driver will be picking you up at your accommodation in Rome in the morning for a lovely drive through the region of Lazio and Campania, passing some of the historical countryside of Italy such as Apennine Mountain range, and the monastery of Cassino, where one decisive battle of World War II took place, to reach Pompeii as your first stop. Pompeii was an ancient Roman city near modern Naples in the Campania region of Italy, in the territory of the comune of Pompei. Pompeii was buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.
Largely preserved under the ash, the excavated city offers a unique snapshot of Roman life, frozen at the moment it was buried and providing an extraordinarily detailed insight into the everyday life of its inhabitants.
