The ruins here indicate the importance of the Forum, as a centre of religion, politics and commerce. One of the most recognisable buildings in the city, Il Vittoriano, is your next stop. It was built in 1885 in honour of King Victor Emmanuel II. The impressive neoclassical building towers over the surrounding area, and it’s easy to see why it was nicknamed the “Wedding Cake” by the locals.

You’ll also see the Quirinal Palace, official residence of the current Italian President, which is located nearby.

The incredible Trevi Fountain cannot be missed, before you head to another famous spot, the Spanish Steps.
